The B1 Preliminary level course is designed to equip learners with all the necessary language skills and techniques needed to excel in the exam which corresponds to this level. Besides, the course also further prepares the learners for the national public examination in Malaysia such as PT3. B1 Preliminary is used as a measure to assess learners’ mastery on the basics of English and to ensure that learners are equipped with practical English skills for everyday use.
According to the Cambridge Assessment Centre, learners with a B1 Preliminary qualification should be able to:
- Read simple textbooks and articles in English
- Write letters and emails on everyday subjects
- Understand factual information
- Show awareness of opinions and mood in spoken and written English
The B1 Preliminary level course is further broken down into two levels, which are lower B1 Preliminary level and upper B1 Preliminary level respectively. The course runs for 80 weeks (8 terms) which is equivalent to 240 hours.
